The remote community of Wujal Wujal in Far North Queensland is undergoing a significant rebuild following the devastating impact of ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. The cyclone brought severe flooding, causing extensive damage to homes and critical infrastructure, including the community’s essential store.
The collaborative efforts involve multiple stakeholders, including the Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council, state government agencies, and community elders. This cooperation aims to ensure a swift and efficient recovery process, with a focus on restoring normalcy and essential services as quickly as possible. Interim solutions are being explored to provide residents with access to food and other necessities during the reconstruction phase
